Twenty seven of Scotland’s emerging and established furniture makers exhibited their work from 14-16 June 2024 in the historic setting of Dalkeith Palace.
The event marked the first in-person annual exhibition for the Scottish Furniture Makers Association since 2019, giving visitors the opportunity to see new work by designer-makers from across Scotland.
Exhibits included hand-made furniture, sculpture and woodworks, displaying a wide range of styles from traditional to contemporary. The works on display showcased the different materials and techniques being used in workshops across the country and a selection of exhibitors were on hand each day to discuss their work.
Mike Whittall, Scottish Furniture Makers Association President, said: “We were pleased to return to an in-person show for the first time since the pandemic, taking our members' work to a wider audience. It was the first time the annual show had taken place outside of of a city, and Dalkeith Place provided a spectacular setting to display the beauty and diversity of furniture being produced in Scotland.
"The annual exhibition gives our members an opportunity to showcase their work and have conversations about what it means to be a furniture designer maker. Visitors to the show had lots of questions about the design process and how a piece develops from tree to timber to finished product and we welcomed the chance to share our experiences.”
All exhibits in the annual exhibition were available for purchase, leading to a number of sales across the weekend as well as enquiries about future commissions.
The Scottish Furniture Makers Association was also pleased to welcome the Felder Group as a sponsor of the annual show for the first time.
Following positive feedback from makers and visitors alike, planning is now underway for the 2025 annual show.
