I create a style of simplicity with shapes of inner-tree growth and joints of pegs and wedges. Variations of a simple stool can be endless. In essence it's explorative and timeless.
Adrian McCurdy produces furniture using local timber and hand-crafted techniques.s both long established and contemporary.
Biography
Adrian McCurdy has lived and worked in the Scottish Borders since 1976, first as a painter and since 1992 making furniture and panel carving. After studying Fine Art, he moved to Scotland where artwork was subsidised assisting Tim Stead with his furniture and then periods repairing historical oak-framed buildings including the Globe Theatre.
Early furniture commissions involved research into simple early oak furniture. The necessary skills learnt with hand tools became an influence and trademark approach. No formal training was received, just a rather unique mix of learned skills and creative desire. Adrian now works on both furniture and carved panels.
